# Take in-person payments with the mobile app

> Sell tickets, tables, and add-ons at your event with Tap to Pay or a Stripe card reader, record cash payments, and set up a self-service kiosk.

Use host mode in the [Treasure Events app](https://docs.ontreasure.com/features/mobile-app.md) to sell at the door. Card payments run through Stripe and are paid out with your online sales. Cash payments are recorded so your sales records stay complete.

## Take card payments

**1. Open In-Person Payments**

Open your event and tap **In-Person Payments**, or tap **Pay** on the scanner's bottom bar.

**2. Choose a payment method**

Under **Payment Method**, choose:

* **Tap to Pay on iPhone** (or **Tap to Pay** on Android): accept contactless cards and phone wallets on your own phone, with no extra hardware. Supports Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.
* **Physical Reader**: connect to a Stripe card reader over Bluetooth or the internet.

The first time you use Tap to Pay on iPhone, accept Apple's terms when prompted. Setup takes a moment.

**3. Build the order**

Pick items from the **Tickets**, **Tables**, and **Add-ons** tabs. The cart shows the **Subtotal**, **Platform Fees**, and **Total**. Fees follow the same settings as your online checkout. See [Pricing](https://docs.ontreasure.com/account/pricing.md).

Optionally enter the buyer's **Email (optional)** so the order is tied to them.

**4. Collect payment**

Tap the pay button and have the buyer tap their card or phone. You'll see **Payment Successful!** or **Payment Failed**.

The **Orders** tab lists recent in-person orders taken on this phone.

### Tap to Pay requirements

| Platform | Requirement |
| - | - |
| iPhone | iPhone XS or later, iOS 16.4 or later |
| Android | Android 13 or later |

If your phone doesn't qualify, Tap to Pay shows **Unavailable**. Use a physical reader instead.

### Connect a card reader

1. Choose **Physical Reader**.
2. Under **Discovery Method**, choose **Bluetooth** for a reader near you, or **Internet** for a reader on your network.
3. Tap **Scan for Readers**, then **Tap to connect** on your reader.

If the reader stops responding, open the gear menu and tap **Reinitialize Terminal**.

> [!NOTE]
>
> You can't add tips or charge a custom amount by card. To charge for something that isn't a ticket, table, or add-on, add it as an add-on on your event first.

## Record cash payments

When someone pays you in cash, record it so it shows up in your sales records.

1. Open your event and tap **Cash Payment**, or tap **Cash** on the scanner's bottom bar.
2. Choose **Tickets**, **Add-ons**, or **Vendors**.
3. Under **Select Item**, pick what was paid for, and set the quantity.
4. Enter the **Amount Paid** and an optional comment.
5. Tap **Record Payment**.

Cash payments show on the **Cash Payments** tab of **Orders** in your web dashboard. Treasure doesn't process cash, so it isn't part of your payouts.

## Run a self-service kiosk

Kiosk mode turns an Android device and a card reader into a self-checkout station. Attendees buy their own tickets and add-ons, and the app locks to the checkout screen.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Kiosk mode is available on Android only and needs a connected physical card reader.

**1. Start kiosk mode**

In **In-Person Payments**, connect your reader, open the gear menu, and tap **Start Kiosk Mode**.

**2. Create a PIN**

Create a 4-digit PIN and enter it again to confirm. You need this PIN to leave kiosk mode.

**3. Let attendees check out**

The kiosk shows **Self-Service Checkout** with your **Tickets** and **Add-Ons**. Before paying, attendees are asked **Where should we send your ticket?** They can enter an email or tap **Skip — pay without email**.

If nobody touches the screen for a minute, the kiosk asks **Still there?** and then resets for the next person.

To leave kiosk mode, tap the event name at the top of the screen five times quickly, enter your PIN, and tap **Exit Kiosk Mode** in **Kiosk Admin**. You can also reconnect the reader from **Kiosk Admin**.

## Refunds

The app doesn't process refunds. Handle refunds from **Orders** in your web dashboard.
